I just saw the encore performance of the premier of Shin Ultraman in the United States at Lincoln Center in New York. The film already exceeded my expectations in the first 30 minutes. Spectacular thrill ride of a movie, appealing to new audiences unfamiliar with the 1966 series, while preserving the true aesthetic of the original in a way that will awe Ultraman purists!!!Imagine scenes that look shot-by- shot like the original jumping out at you on the big screen. There were visual sequences that evoked some of my fondest memories of watching the show as a child.I hope this movie gets theater distribution in the it was made to be seen on the big screen.If you go to see this movie, bring your Beta Capsule, and fortify yourself with Rocks!!!

have to ask. As much as I dislike Anno and his work. And as much as I hate that this still isn't really proper Suitmation/Tokusatsu is it that he can seemingly treat Ultraman and Kamen Rider with respect, making them basically look/act like their classic selves. But for his "Godzilla", he makes it into some ridiculous, grotesque, google-eyed burn victim, that shoots f*cking laser beams from it's fins and tail, etc? IE nothing at all like the real Godzilla? I would prefer that he had never touched Godzilla to begin with. But why couldn't he have treated Godzilla with the same level of respect for the character and its history, as he seems to be for these other properties? That's super shitty.

The Toho effects team somehow still does an amazing job. Like their VFX and Sound Design teams, phenomenal. Like they still make action look big and impressive and the CGI when used fits in with the natural environment.

Shin Godzilla got a theatrical release here in the states. Hopefully the same happens with this. Even if it’s a one day only fathom event or something like that. I so wanna see this in theaters. Streaming would be fine as well. But this deserves a big screen distribution even here.
