Alas. The trailer is far better than the actual movie, which quickly becomes pure fantasy. If only they had done as this trailer hints: taken a more subtle approach, deliberately leaving open the possibility that any explicit ghost visions are just Nell slowly going insane and seeing things. (Compare Jack in Kubrick's The Shining.) Then near the end we would finally have SOME, preferably small but shaking, indication that no, it is NOT all in Nell's head. Instead the film quickly becomes a mess of phantasmagoria and bad CGI ghosts.

The original made in 1963, blows this one away. This movie remake is God awful horrible when you have seen the original first.I saw the original when I was around 8 or 9 so that was 1990 91 and it scared me soooooo bad and also started my curiosity in the paranormal world and still after it all these years later.I remember long before any ghost chasing show came on other than SIGHTINGS, I was out there doig evp work with my parents micro recorder a Polaroid camera, and some notebooks and my trusty no 3 pencil.Ah the good ol days

The first time I heard of this movie was when I was at the theater. And when it came on pay-per-view. I watched it with mom and dad. I thought I could handle it but I couldn't at all. But as I got older I watched it again. I was brave. I'm no longer afraid of horror movies.

I feel the only reason to watch this film is because of Liam Neeson. He's such a fantastic actor. Hate Phantom Menace all you want, he's still awesome!. He can pretty much pull off a great performance in anything.

I've been looking for this movie for over 5 years. After it scarred me when I was little. I was 3 when this movie came out. When I was 12 I've got flashes of scenes from this movie in my head and tried looking for it. I asked everyone about it but no one could remember the title. I was looking for the movie and what it was called for so long and now 17 I finally found it. I'm going to watch this movie again after 12 years if mystery and confusion (however I didn't let myself get consumed by this xD that would be ridiculous besides if I did I probably would have found it when I turned 13 at the latest but when I have free time I've been searching andfinally found it)

I remember when I was 4 or so and I went to see The Phantom Menace, and for some reason they showed this trailer beforehand. Why they would show this trailer before a Star Wars film, I'll never know. But I still have nightmares about the part from 2:01 to 2:04. But for years I didn't know what the movie was. And now I've found the trailer by accident. This is the first time in 14 years that I'm watching this. It's damn creepy to watch again.

The original gives me chills. This version of The Haunting didn't scare me a bit. Not even as a child did this scare me. I can't bring myself to appreciate this movie, not after seeing the original.

This has to be my favorite movie of all time! Creepy, scary, horror movies are my favorite movies by far! The way that the house comes alive is amazing. They are all fantastic actors! I give this movie a 10/10 rating!

I didn't mind this film at all. It was panned by critics though, but ya gotta be your own judge. In a interview executive producer Steven Spielberg said that they were having trouble with the rating board, cause originally the script was way more scary and graphic. So they obviously had to time it down a bit! But I loved it, the villain Krane is still eerie and evil, even in today's standards. I'd give this film 9/10

I like the original version better. This movie was a little cheesey. I mean the 60's version played as a psycological thriller, while the remake here is a rediculous Disney like movie.
