It's a great trailer. As a lifelong fan of the books this had me pretty excited for the films. Ultimately, I think they were good - not great; but this trailer really sells it.

I love coming back and seeing how the original trailers for things like LOTR were before studios knew it would be this as huge a deal as it is. Like, if I came into this totally cold in 2001 having never read Tolkien in my life, I’d think they were pushing this to be a horror or at least a much darker fantasy

Peter Jackson was definitely a genius bring a convoluted but beloved fantasy book trilogy like The Lord of the Rings to the big screen from all his meticulous planning in terms of creativity, writing, time and money he needed to get the film and to ensure that they were enjoyable as possible and the rest is HISTORY!

But when I saw the fellowship on Christmas 2001, from the opening frame and narration by blanchett, the score, everything I was hooked beyond measure. Most mind blown from a movie going experience to this day. Dark knight was close but I expected it to be good. This was complete shock to the system

Ironic, i tried watching these films when they came out, and over the years and immediately disliked them. I love game of thrones, and know the author was inspired by tolkien, but always found LOTR weird and and the visuals kind of looked like horror which i cant stand. Just found it all uninspiring, but randomly decided to watch the new amazon series and was blown away by the complexity of its universe, the characters, and the absolutely gorgeous, etheric now am about to watch these originals from a totally new here we go

Watching this after the Rings of Power trailer does show two distinct things. This trailer gives you the stakes and it narrates what the threat is. Neither are present in the Rings of Power trailer. You have no idea what's going on just a vague notion that Galadriel fights for some reason.

Perfection. Pure fantasy, completely untethered from our world.

Lord of the Rings is truly the best Trilogy of all time. Nothing seems to come close to its magnificence. All the elements work so harmoniously together, its absolutely breathtaking. Starting with the cast, its known facts that there were various considerations for the characters but, I don’t believe the characters could be better portrayed by anyone else. Bringing to light the fact that Rusell Crowe was nearly cast as Aragorn, (bro no way) someone had said in the comments on another LOTR video that he would have drawn too much attention to himself, make it appear as though he is the powerful the great, resulting in overshadowing other characters I totally agree with that. But, bringing in Viggo last minute like that was the best decision ever! Already having prior training on varied requirements for playing the part, his aged handsome king like ( I mean it) appearance hits the marks bullseye. Literally every single character that appears on the screen, whatever the duration of the camera on them, they all seem to work just like an orchestra. There was not a moment I (and I believe nearly everyone) felt that someone needed to be recasted or that someone shouldn’t need that screen time they got. The pure and whole hearted dedication of the cast+crew to bring this trilogy to such heights beyond the sky is magical. Having to break, scratch and hurt parts of them literally and the need to get cracking back to work was incredible. Their genuine friendship and love for each other was so wonderful and a real breath of happiness. Oh dear good God the beauty of the filmography was chef’s kiss, each shot, each scene, each and every detail from the miniature building sets, creative camera angles to work perfectly well for showcasing the height differences so normally like that, the details in the costumes, makeup+hair, significance in each one’s personal appearances. The crew did a FANTASTIC job!And finally the music, lord oh lord have mercy upon my heart and ears, the main soundtrack and the Elvish soprano singing is out of this worldddd!! I repeat it is out of this world!!!!! This movie is……..The Best Trilogy I’ve ever watched, watched it as a child was totally mesmerised, didn’t understand a thing, watched it a couple of times after still mesmerised but didn’t understand but as I’m older, I’m still mesmerised and haven’t just watched the movie but felt the movie to my bones. Oh if only I could erase my memory just so I can rewatch this masterpiece as though I’m watching it for the first time…….every time.

To be honest I did not want to see this movie when it came out and used to say stuff like "oh, another adaptation again". After I saw it for the first time, I started a love relationship with these three movies.

I remember seeing this trailer when I was 19 and was blown away, totally stunned, because until then the best epic fantasy we had was Conan :)You can't get that feeling today. You already have LotR, Hobbit, GoT, WoW cinematics, ES cinematics But back then, this was f'n ground breaking.

I was 11 years old at the Theater with my parents getting ready to watch Rush hour 2 and this trailer came on before the movie. My dad and I looked at each other because he had read the books to me and man what a feeling of excitement and adventure to see in translated into film. We couldn’t wait my dad and I! We saw them all together every opening day all 3 years in a row. My life would never be the same. I’m so thankful for the books and the movies. I’m thankful we all got this.

22 years ago I was 13 years old and I was captivated by this trailer - I had never seen anything like it and wasn't familiar with the books. I read the trilogy twice before the film was released and once again I had never seen anything like it. 21 years later and I still haven't seen anything like it. Just pretenders lacking talent, vision and creativity playing dress up with their parent's clothes and expecting applause for it. Back then I was excited for the future of cinema. I had no idea I was witnessing the peak before the decline.

We Will always have this trilogy to come back to.

The HYPE for this was enormous. Nothing like it has ever come since, not even Endgame came close.

Surprised lotr is only rated PG I think it should be 16 at least it had some disturbing scenes in trilogy including Gollum being hurt and the black riders were scary and Sauron. I’m 22 years old and the black riders on the horse still scare me today. So imagine a child watching it, wouldn’t they be traumatised or something lol

Casting is just as important as the story.

I always thought this trailer sucked when it came out. Just looked mediocre to me. My expectations were low when I saw the film in the theater and it blew me away.

This wasn't just 2001, this trailer was released in late 2000, we're talking Y2K here. It feels ancient. There's outtakes in this trailer which are not in the official movie, and some are lacking their VFX. It's fantastic to see glimpses of FOTR in its half-finished state in this I was only about 3 years old when this first dropped, and I've been obsessed with LOTR ever since. I attribute the video game for ROTK on GameCube in 2004 to solidifying that. And though I could never truly understand the older sophisticated language, I still remember sneaking down to the school library during lunch just to bug Ms. Woods to help me find the books so I could read them. To this day, I still have that very copy of Fellowship of the Ring from my old school library. I went back when I graduated for it. By then I had already read it about 4 or 5 times, but that's what LOTR means to me. I'm here, even now at this very moment, watching this trailer for the pure nostalgia of a world I once knew, telling you this story because the works of Tolkien transformed my life. And it will transform yours, too, if you have the heart to know the story it wishes to tell.

Okay, as many of us here, I was thinking that maybe we're jumping to conclusions with Rings of Power trailer. Maybe (just maybe) LoTR/fantasy trailers always look bleak.Nope. This trailer is amazing and right away gives you the Tolkien's atmosphere, the cinematic perfection and the So good! "You can't always get what you want", I guess. I mean I guess the dialogue is not perfect here either, but I wish the dialogue was the only problem "LoTR RoP" had.

I miss the times films were about a story, not representation.
